Welcome to For the love of geese where I share my passion for quilting.

By day I am a freight broker. All of my free time is spent behind my sewing machine creating my designs.  My name is Denise, I live in a small Southern Illinois town with my husband of 28+ years, and my faithful friend and quilt judge Enzo.

This is Enzo, he spends his day working with me. He sits in the window and thinks he is protecting me from the deer, turkey, rabbits and squirrels, basically whatever may wonder into the yard or in front of the window.  He then spends his evenings sitting along side me while I am sewing, a true Velcro dog. I suppose its only natural that he sits on a quilt when I lay it on the  floor to take a photo. His nose is naturally brown.

The first quilt I pieced was when I was 17 years old, all by hand. This was a huge accomplishment considering I took shop in school instead of home-ec.  That top sat in a closet for 10 yrs until I pulled it out one day and decided to finish it. My husband taught me how to use a sewing machine and I set out to quilt it. Well…it was a disaster and went into the trash.

Next I discovered applique and finished several small projects before I then decided to make quilted jackets embellished with applique. Since then I have been all over the place with quilting.  Next I discovered paper piecing. Of everything I have tried and accomplished over the last 30 years paper piecing is my favorite method. It’s also the most reliable and accurate method.

As the site title implies, I LOVE flying geese. It was this love that led me to designing my own quilts. There are very few commercially available quilt patterns with flying geese. Moreover, I love circling geese but dislike curved piecing and Y seams which none of my designs contain. So, if you have ever wanted to make a circling flying geese medallion you should check out For the love of geese quilt or Nostalgia Twist in my Etsy shop.

Currently I offer a couple quilt patterns in my Etsy shop and free paper pieced block patterns right here. You can view these by clicking the “Free Patterns or Etsy” links at the top of the page. You can also view my designs pieced by others by clicking “Pattern Testers Quilt Wall” .
