This blog is all about quilting. My latest addiction is paper piecing and my first “for sale” pattern is now available. My name is Denise, I live in a small Southern Illinois town with my husband of 26 years, our son and my faithful friend and quilt judge Enzo.
By day I am a freight broker with an affiliate office for DSV Road. What is that you ask? If you have a load to move, you call me and I will search for a truck to move it. If you are a truck driver looking for freight, call me and I will look for a load for you. Lets just say I spend a lot of time in front of the computer and on the phone with truck drivers and their dispatchers.
Enzo spends his day working with me. He sits in the window and thinks he is protecting me from the deer, turkey, rabbits and squirrels, basically whatever may wonder into the yard or in front of the window. He then spends his evenings sitting along side me while I am sewing, a true Velcro dog. I suppose its only natural that he sits on a quilt when I lay it on the floor to take a photo. This one is definitely Enzo approved. This was a gift to his friend/groomer for her new baby.
The first quilt I pieced was when I was 17 years old, all by hand. This was a huge accomplishment considering I took shop in school instead of home-ec. That top sat in a closet for 10 yrs until I pulled it out one day and decided to finish it. My husband taught me how to use a sewing machine and I set out to quilt it. Well…it was a disaster and went into the trash.
Next I discovered applique and finished several small projects before I then decided to make quilted jackets embellished with applique. Since then I have been all over the place with quilting. After all of this I discovered paper piecing. Of everything I have tried and accomplished over the last 31 years paper piecing is my favorite method of piecing tops. Its also the most reliable and accurate method. Not to mention, I can complete a top in half the time.
At this point I am not sure where this blog will lead. I’ve posted a free God’s eye paper pieced block pattern and plan to add more as time allows. If you make something with my pattern I would love to see it. A link back to my site would also be appreciated if it is shared online.
