Flower Patch Block 1
Welcome to the real beginning of the Flower Patch sew along.
In this post you will find a video with basic foundation paper piecing instructions and the download for block 1.

I’m sure there is a really cool name for this block that I could not find a reference to. I added the pinwheel because I thought it’d add a little interest, much better than an empty center. Not to mention, I love pointy blocks.
This block is no longer available as a free download.
Fabric
For this block you will use your dark, medium and light fabric along with your chosen background.
Instructions are given in the download on the correct number of strips and size to cut for construction of this block. Do NOT cut more than specified and do NOT sub cut. This will make sense if you’ll please watch the video.
Just in case the embed doesn’t work and I’m still asleep when you try to view it.
You will find there is much less fabric waste when paper piecing with strips.

If you have any questions regarding instructions in the download please leave a comment and I will respond as soon as possible.
hi Denise, i finally found your answer about where to find the first block and have asked to be excepted to the group. can’t wait to continue with this block, this is STUNNING thank you
Oh good,
i just today found out about your sal and the clue for block one isn’t available. is there a way to buy it? it looks gorgeous!
Glad to have you sewing along. At the moment the only place block 1 is available is in my facebook group. You can click the link on the right sidebar to be taken there to join. Thank you for your interest.
Hi! I got a late start and missed the first block. I saw you mentioned they’d be for sale if we missed one, but I didn’t see where to go to purchase the block. I don’t want to mess up this quilt – it’s going to be gorgeous!! Can you let me know where I can purchase the block? Thanks so much for sharing your creativity with us!! 🙂 Vivian (wvoaks at comcast dot net)
They will not be available for purchase until after the sal is over. You can however join my facebook group for access to block 1.
A beautiful block in the blues!
Thank you, the white really brings out those blues.
Hi Denise! I love the first block in your QAL. The fabrics look so nice and crisp with the white background fabric. I’m going to watch your video now – thanks for sharing. ~smile~ Roseanne
Thanks Roseanne. Hope you and Sue and the littles are staying well.
Great video! I’m an accomplished paper-piecer, but i learned a few tricks that will make my piecing go more smoothly and I’ll have less waste doing it. Thanks, Denise.
Yw, glad you found something useful. Piecing with strips like this also saves you a lot of time cutting the patches too.
Beautiful block, I’ll get started this afternoon!
It goes together pretty quick. Including the video I think it took me about 1 1/2 hours. Thank you for joining.
Hi Denise. I’m looking for the fabric requirements for the SAL but can’t seem to find them. Am I blind or did I miss a blog post already?. I’ll just happen to be near a LQS I like for the next 2 days to pick up anything I’m short. ? Thanks in advance for your help!
Somehow the fabric post and the SAL post clashed, its fixed now. Clock on the Flower Patch Mystery SAK at the top of the page then click fabric. Sorry about that.
Thank you ?
Yw. Sorry about any confusion.
