Here Comes the Sun Blog Hop

Here Comes The Sun

It had been a long winter and I welcomed joining this fun blog hop hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt when she announced it. Carol’s hops are always fun and filled with inspiration. She has really connected a great group of bloggers. Thank you very much for organizing and hosting another wonderful hop.

My sunshine

One of the colors I want to use more of is yellow, it’s my favorite color but rarely makes it into my sewing room. I’ve been on the blue wagon recently and received this beautiful collection of blues in my January Island Batik Ambassador box called Snowsicle. Kathy Engle designed this for them and I am in love with the angels, doves and stars.

Snowsicle is shipping to shops this month just in case you love it as much as I do.

Cutting

Also, I was lucky enough to have received the 5″ Qube Set from AccuQuilt this spring and was trying to think so something I could make. Blue, yellow and a new Qube Set.

In the hoop embroidery

My new found love is machine embroidery and in the hoop applique is the bomb. If you haven’t tried it you really should. The great sunflowers I found on Kreative Kiwi as part of a runner pattern, for a buck!

For the Stems and Leave I used the AccuQuilt die and the bucket from their Summer Medley die.

Speaking of luck, my embroidery machines likes Aurifil Thread and that is what I used for stitching around the sunflowers.

Sunflower flimsy

My project is almost finished. The sunflowers are pinned for photo purposes and waiting for me to quilt it. Then I will attach the 3d sunflowers. A splash of yellow is always a beautiful addition to any shade of blue don’t you think?

  1. Love your embroidered sunflowers. A great addition to this quilt. The first year I had my embroidery machine I had a goal of using it for every hop I participated in that year. It was a great challenge and I did complete it.

  2. Your flowers definitely warm up the quilt. Yellow is such a great way to contrast blue to make a very pretty quilt.

  3. Your embroidery is excellent. I am grateful to not be dipping into that yet because I know it will mean another craft obsession for me! I think the sunflowers look so professional. I’m very impressed. Thanks for sharing a cheery project.

    1. Totally understand not wanting another addiction. It’s great though, you load your design and the machine stitches away while you work on something else.

  4. Sun shining on the motifs in your fabric will be a lovely touch. Sweet quilt qith this splash of sun

  5. Hi Denise! Well, your sunflowers are the bomb, I think. Not only is sun in the name but they absolutely scream summer, and sun, and HOT weather. You don’t see those lovely black-eyed-Susans bursting forth in January unless you live down under. Nice job! {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. Those are beautiful blues in batiks and adding the flowers was a great idea. They are all so pretty! Blues and yellows look so lovely together. I need to do more machine embroidery so thank you for the inspiration, Denise!

    1. I fell in love with the machine embroidery applique, they are so easy. Thank you very much for putting together another great hop.

  7. I love batiks in any color and any print. There is something just so beautiful about using them. Sunflowers, along with Echinacea flowers are my 2 favorite flowers, and I love the blue and yellow combination too, so that top is a beauty!

  8. Beautiful! I love the blues of the top and adding those sunflowers to the quilt after it’s done will be just the right touch. Thanks for sharing!

  9. I love your applique sunflowers. What a fun way to dress up a quilt. It goes without saying your IB fabrics are gorgeous!
