Of course I have peeked inside. After days of anticipation Island Batik Ambassador box #2 started arriving on doorsteps around the world. There was a lot of chatter in the private IB group and Jennifer over at Dizzy Quilter decided to have some fun with Jeff Foxworthy’s saying, “You might be a redneck if…”. Except she said, “You might be an Island Batik Ambassador if…, “Twice a year you spend hours a day stalking the FedEx truck.” This pretty much sums up the behavior of many of us. For a better view of each of fabric, see my video tomorrow on Put your foot down. That is, if I can figure out how to add it. If not I will share a link. I’m warning you though, it was my very first video and I wasn’t entirely comfortable so I had a lot of brain freezes.
So without further ado…
Island Batik Islander strips and yardage. Islander is from the 2019 Summer Collection. There are 40, 2 1/2″ strips, 20 different fabrics in the pack. The yardage is a duplicate of 2 of the strips included in the bundle. This is what I chose to make the September Challenge project with industry partner AccuQuilt. The fabric on the right is coordinates.
Next is Quiet Shades.. Quiet Shades is from the 2019 Spring Collection. There is light and dark yardage along with 42 pc 10 1/2″ squares, 20 different fabrics. The yardage is a duplicate of the fabrics included in the bundle. The fabric on the right is coordinates.
Custard is a neutral fabric, I LOVE it! Custard has a splash of peach and yellow with green leaves.
Solids, I LOVE this grey. They’re all lovely but if I had to choose just one it would be the grey. Grey, yellow and green are my favorite colors. With that being said, look at the one I chose to place front and center, not intentional. I guess it’s just how my brain works.
Look at that spray of color. It comes from Petal Pushers from the 2019 Spring Collection. Can you imagine…? Such vibrant colors and I think the coordinates on the right would blend with Petal Pushers as well.
This year AccuQuilt joined Island Batik, Aurifil and Hobbs Batting. Unless you have been on another planet you already know AccuQuilt sent all Island Batik Ambassadors their very own Ready. Set. GO! Ultimate Fabric Cutting System
For a detailed view of what is included and how I used it in the first Island Batik/AccuQuilt challenge GO! here. I think all Ambassadors had their fingers crossed that we’d receive another great die in box 2. They surprised us with a BOB die which stands for block on board. The BOB die will cut an entire quilt block with one pass so there is no need to grab a different die for each section of a block. You can still place only 6 layers of fabric on the die. To view all BOB dies click here.
I received the Spider Web die which you can see below along with fabric I’ve already cut. Can you see the little tabs on the die or the fabric? It makes lining up the halves so simple. More on that in September.
Aurifil has also been very generous. In this latest box I received 2 spools of 50wt thread. The orange 1133 is so vivid and I love the green 2843. Our July Challenge was Artsy Fartsy and featured Aurifil thread. You can view my thread on that finish here.
Last but definitely not least, because without batting you can’t make a quilt. Industry partner Hobbs supplied us with a great selection of batting in the first box including black batting. I had never considered using black batting before I used it in the May challenge. I also loved and used Tuscany Silk blend in the July Challenge.
In box 2 Hobbs included a Cotton/Wool blend and a 100% Wool both from the Tuscany Collection. Oh the anticipation of trying the 100% Wool is killing me. I’ve seen so many beautiful quilts quilted with it. Also in the box was their Heirloom Cotton, I am a low loft gal and I love this one.
Thank you Island Batik for accepting me into your program and for the beautiful fabric collections. And thank you AccuQuilt, Hobbs Batting and Aurifil thread for this great selection.
If you would like to see what the other IB Ambassadors received in their boxes you can follow the link here. Some may not have shared their box opening posts yet so be patient and check back, they’ll be visible soon. I hope you are inspired and follow the links to one or all of the industry partners for more information.
