Log Cabin Tree of Life finish

Although I am very happy to have finished this year load project that was my 2nd quilt along, my heart weighs heavy.

The tree was started with Enzo, he was present with every single block and the construction of the tree. I always said he was such a slave driver but we know that is not possible. He provided so much companionship during the day when we were home alone and so often provided comfort. I’m so sad he was not able to model this beautiful finish for me.

Instead, that honor is left to Loki the Ornery who makes me laugh and smile and scream all at the same time, he keeps me on my toes every second of the day.

When I say the lighting in my home is horrible and inside photos do not show the true beauty of the fabric? See the difference?

Island Batik fabric

Island Batik is such a wonderful company to work with. When I told them I was planning the QAL and asked if they would provide the fabric it was generously provided. All of the fabric in this quilt can be found throughout the year in their Foundations Collection.

AccuQuilt dies

All dies were given to me by AccuQuilt for a previous project. They made the applique flowers and leaves a breeze. The flying geese border was cut using the AccuQuilt 6″ Flying Geese die.

The batting I used in this quilt is Hobbs Batting Cotton. Pieced and quilted using Aurifil Thread I purchased from fellow Island Batik Ambassador MaryEllen from MaryMackMadeMine.

Please see the QAL page for the generous sponsor who provided prizes for our winners, Sandie H and Kat from Scrap Box Quilts.

In loving memory of my friend Enzo Boy.

      Thank you Gretchen.

  2. Your quilt is a lovely finish! The applique in the corner adds just the right touch. I know the loss you feel with Enzo Boy. I have lost 3 lifelong friends as well. You never fully get over it.

I love your finished quilt. My sympathies on the loss of Enzo Boy. I have lost 3 furry kids in the last 20 years. I still think about them.

Thank you for both. His loss has been more difficult than any before him, its a real struggle.

  4. Denise your Tree of Life quilt is simply beautiful. My heart hurts thinking of your loss. Our fur babies are such a huge part of our lives and families.

Thank you. You never realize how much we depend on them until they are gone. Now I realize how much Enzo really did for me and what an amazing friend he really was.

  5. I love this quilt so much. What a lovely tribute to Enzo, so hard to loose those furry ones that make us smile each day.

Unbelievably hard, which I expected but so under prepared. I love how the quilt turned out.

This is truly stunning! I love the flowers in the corner, they add just the right amount of embellishment. So sorry Enzo wasn’t there for the finish; I know you miss him. We had to say goodbye to our dog Ivy last year and I still look for her sometimes, momentarily forgetting that she’s gone. That Loki is a cutie!

That is the hardest, you build a routine and that sudden change makes the loss so much worse. Thank you Emily.

Your Tree of Life quilt is beautiful.I love the way you did the borders. Is there a part for August 2021 or was July the last part of your lovely quilt. I hope to start this quilt in the near future. Thanks for your pattern.

Sorry for the loss of your beloved fur baby.

    • Denise
