This is a great weekend project and you can make it larger or smaller just by adding more or less geese, wider sashing and outside border. For my quilt I used the 8″ Qube and 2 1/2″ strip dies from AccuQuilt which made cutting so fast and accurate. But, you can use your own cutting and piecing method, including foundation paper piecing if you prefer. Template provided in download.
First I would like to thank Mel from
for organizing this scrap buster hop. You can visit her page for all the links to those participating in the hop.
Because I was strapped for time and didn’t have a lot of scraps pre cut I chose to use Stash Builders from Island Batik. They’re 5″ strips x width of fabric so they were quick to load on the AccuQuilt. Each roll contained 20 different fabrics but some were duplicated in other rolls, especially in the neutrals.
I used the Island Batik Gray Solid for sashing and borders since I have a bolt of it but you could make a scrappy sashing instead. I love flying geese and I love this scrappy look.
Scrap busting is great even if you do not have a lot of scrap. It provides opportunity and inspiration.
