Tool Talk with Studio 180 Designs
Studio 180 Designs
Welcome to Tool Talk with Studio 180 Designs and hosted by Island Batik! Box 2 that shipped in July included the V Block ruler from Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 designs. It’s a strange looking thing but I soon discovered there was mothing to be worried about

Some of the products featured on this site were provided to me free of charge by Island Batik, Hobbs Batting, Aurifil , AccuQuilt, ByAnnie and Schmetz Needles.

The instructions provided in Studio 180 tools are clear but, for those of us who are visual learner’s you’ll appreciate there are also video’s. Quilting has come a long way from the library books I used to teach myself.
Studio 180 tool instruct you to piece larger block then trim them down to size. Even though I really dislike cutting fabric I find this whole process fun.

This collection, Flourish designed by Kathy Engle for Island Batik is gorgeous. The collection features orange, blue, gold-orange-mahongany as shown is this beautiful piece of fabric below. It is one of the collections that I did not want to cut into, I wanted to keep around to admire for a little while longer.

There is something for everyone in this collection, myself, I think I will go grab yardage of the orange fabrics.

Then I will need some yardage of the blues.

Prairie Spirit Pressing Mat
Ahh, the new pressing mat, if you like to keep it local it is 100% Canadian. Prairie Spirit Alpaca’s is a new industry partner for Island Batik this year. They sent all ambassador’s their 12″ x 18″ pressing mat that is 50/50 wool and alpaca. It did not emit any odor when applying heat and that was so welcome. You will need to run a lint brush or vaccum over it to remove any loose fibers before using it, otherwise, I wish I had one that was 18″ x 24″.
The below is my favorite orange in this collection.

And these two compliment each other very well, I would love to make a quilt using these two fabrics alone. .

This baby blue background with splashes of a medium blue and darker blue print is so pretty.

It was at this point that the camera on my cell phone decided to crap out which leaves a gap in my photo story.
Quilting
To quilt my flimsy I chose to use Heirloom® Premium 100% Natural Cotton with Scrim.
For piecing and quilting I used Aurifil Thread.

So you’ll get a few more quilt finish photos of these lovely stars.

For the borders I used the 2 1/2″ strip die from AccuQuilt. It is the quickest and most accurate way to cut strips.
